A Great Comeback Story

I think most people like a good comeback story. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I love a good comeback story. What I’m about to share with you isn’t a good comeback story, it’s a great comeback story.

If you’re an NFL fan, you’re familiar with this story. If you don’t follow the NFL, you might not be aware of this. This story goes much deeper than sports. It’s an inspirational story about commitment and dedication.

This story is about former NFL player Alex Smith. I’ve seen a lot of gruesome injuries on the football field through the years. His injury was one of the most gruesome ones I’ve seen. Watching the replay was hard enough to stomach, I’m glad I didn’t see it live. This happened on November 18, 2018.

The show 60 Minutes did a great segment about Alex Smith’s injury and comeback. I had previously heard that he suffered a compound fracture to his right Tibia and Fibula. I didn’t know the had to undergo 17 surgeries to save his right leg. During the segment, they also mentioned that he developed sepsis in right leg. At one point, doctors feared they would have to cut off his right leg to save his life.

Alex Smith endured a grueling physical therapy regimen to walk again. A physical therapy specialist by the name of Johnny Owens worked with him. He works with people who have suffered severe injuries while serving in the…
